REGULATIONS
The Council of Filignano, in conjunction with Molise Live, officially announce the aperture of the XII International Opera ‘Mario Lanza’ 2008 Competition, open to Italian and foreign opera singers.

Art. 1
Opera singers of any nationality may enter the competition on condition that they are between 18 and 40 years of age on 15th August 2008.
Art. 2
To be admitted into the competition, all prospective competitors should complete the enclosed entry form in every part using block capitals, and send it by 28th July 2008, to the following address Comune di Filignano, Piazza Municipio Filignano 86074 (IS).
An entry fee of €50,00 must be paid by postal transfer to COMUNE DI FILIGNANO – SERVIZIO DI TESORERIA no.13050869 – CAUSALE: CONCORSO MARIO LANZA. Competitors requiring an accompanying pianist must pay a supplement of €20,00.
Art.3
Prospective competitors are required to enclose with the entry form copies of the following documents:
* copy of a valid identification document;
* an artistic photograph;
* programme chosen for the various stages of the competition;
* photocopy of the music scores to be performed for those who request an accompanying pianist;
* photocopy of payment receipt of the entry fee of €50,
* Competitors who request an accompanying pianist must pay an extra fee of €20,00.
* The entry fee will not be reimbursed if competitors fail to present themselves on the date of convocation or if the application is incomplete or erroneous. Applications after the deadline of 4th August 2007 will not be accepted.
Art.4
The competition will be divided into the following stages:
o Preliminary stage: Competitors perform one aria in Italian and one in a foreign language
o Semifinal stage: Competitors perform one aria in Italian, the same or different from the aria performed in the preliminary stage, and one of the arias listed in the document accompanying these regulations.
o Final stage: Competitors perform one aria choised by commission.
Art.5
Date and time of the convocation will be communicated 1 month before the beginning of the competition on the website: www.filignano.com and www.comune.filignano.is.it and at telephone numbers (+39)346 5845595 or (+39)0865 926294 (int. 51)
The times of the next stage will be communicated at the end of the preliminaries.
On 17 August 2008 the Gala performance of the Symphonic Orchestra and Chorus of Udmurtia directed by M° Leonardo Quadrini.
Art.6
The judging committee will be presided by KATIA RICCIARELLI and composed of famous musicians. Points (1-100) will be awarded to the competitors by the jury. The final result shall be expressed with a numerical score calculated as an average of the individual scores awarded by the members of the jury, excluding the lowest and the highest scores. Upon installation of the judging committee each member will be asked to declare their own personal situation towards the competitors in accordance with ministerial norms included in circular no.10/94, especially regarding art.15, subsection 2, letter c).
Art.7
The Commission may interrupt the performances at any time or request further renditions.
Art. 8
The Commission may decide not to assign the prizes if the competitors are deemed unworthy or attribute ‘ex acquo’ prizes to the winners who will share the money in equal parts.
Art. 9
The competitors will be called to perform in alphabetical order. Late-comers will be excluded from the competition unless there is a valid motive for the delay and the preliminaries have yet to be completed.
Art. 10
The competitors must bring a valid identification document and a copy of the scores to be performed.
Art.11
Prizes:
The first three winners will be awarded the following prizes:
1st prize-winner Bursary of €2,000
2nd prize winner Bursary of €1,500
3rd prize winner Bursary of €1,000
Special prize ‘Mario Lanza’ Bursary of €500
Art. 12
The final concert will take place on 17th August 2008 at 9pm. The finalists are to perform free of charge otherwise the prizes will not be assigned. The finalists are expected to wear concert attire.
Art. 13
The winners will be given a certificate of honour, the finalists a certificate of merit. The competitors who do not qualify for the finals will be given a certificate of participation.
Art. 14
The competitors, at their own expense, may be accompanied by a pianist of trust or make use of the accompanying pianist available, in this case the music scores must be sent to the organisers at least 20 days before the start of the competition.
Art. 15
The organisers reserve the right to tape or film all or part of the competition without giving the competitors any compensation.
Art. 16
The organisers are not responsible for any risks exposed or damage incurred to the competitors during the entire competition.
Art. 17
The organisers are entitled to make any necessary changes to the present regulations to improve the smooth running of the competition. The competition may be cancelled due to unforeseen causes, in this case the competitors will be reimbursed the entry fee.
Art. 18
If the regulations are contested the Italian version will be taken as the basis and any legal proceedings will be dealt with by the Isernia courts.
Art. 29
Application to the competition implies the total and unconditional acceptance of all the rules contained in the present announcement, as well as any eventual modifications foreseen by article 16.
Art 20
Decisions taken by the judging commission cannot be contested.
Art 21
Travel and accommodation expenses are to be covered by the competitors.
